TCS said the company plans to add 1,000 jobs in the United States in the next year to boost its presence in a market TCS sees recovering ahead of other regions like Europe. The company currently has around 13,000 workers in the US. Full Article

Last week Satyam (Part of Tech Mahindra now), Infosys and TCS disclosed few nice surprises. It seems that Indian IT Service sectors has left the past and looking ahead for future.

Infosys came up with their Q1 2009-10 results today. Revenue, Profits and total Employees head counts have come down from last Quarter Q4 2008-2009. Infosys had already cautioned the market during their last Quarter result that revenue and Profit will be down in this Quarter but it was worrisome to take note of total head count in the company.

HR personals in Infosys, Hexaware, Wipro and Mastek have become innovative and trying to find the alternatives to layoffs unlike western IT companies. One of these alternatives is taking long sabbatical with major cut in salaries like what Infosys and Mastek did. It could be creating ‘virtual bench’ by Mastek where employees will take severe cut in salaries and get trained in technologies.

Global search engine player Yahoo, which recently announced a five per cent lay-off globally, is learnt to have asked around 60 employees from its Bangalore-based R&D centre to quit the company. The California-based company is also planning to hire 130 professionals in India in areas like product engineering.

Freescale Semiconductor, Texas-based computer chipmaker, has decided to retrench around 250 professionals at its Bangalore centre, as the company seeks to lower its operational costs by shutting down several manufacturing units across the globe and trim its payroll.
Last week, according to company sources, an indefinite number of Wipro employees have been laid off by the company. An employee, who has been laid off says, “Last week, around 300 employees were laid off on one single day.”

Nokia has sold its enterprise mobile TV unit to Wipro Technologies. Wipro also confirmed that it has purchased Nokia Mobile TV Broadcast Solution, offering enterprise mobile TV solutions. However, the tech major has declined to put a value to the deal.
Oracle Corp plans to enter the computer hardware market by buying Sun Microsystems Inc for more than $7 billion, swooping in after Sun’s talks with IBM fell apart.
