I have been laid off from TCS
I have been working in TCS Bangalore from the past 6+ years
I have been asked by Regional head of HR to resign with in one week
The reason being I had received a 2 rating in a scale of 5 in the year 2005
I am entitled to one month basic upon submitting resignation
My question is, is it not unfair for a person who has servered the company for 6+ years to be seperated without any severance package
I think they have to give atleast 1 month basic for every year of service
This layoffs is happening suddenly from last week without any notice
In late Dec 2008 they have introduced a Performance Improvement Program
Which says that people with 2 consecutive ratings of 2/5 should be put under
3 months probation and then seperated if no improvement is shown
No where there is a policy in the company stating that people with a 2/5 rating in
any of the pervious years should be removed
What is actually happening is that the HR head of Bangalore(BB Shetty) sends a mail
from his official ID bb.shetty@tcs.com or calls from his mobile and asks people to meet him at his chamber
Upon reaching there Shetty threatens the employees with dire consequences if they do not
resign within one week, he says that if they dont resign they will be terminated
and no other company would hire them with a termination record
Many associates in the experience bracket of 3-8 years experince have been forced to resign already
Also heard unofficially that thousands may be sacked the same way
This is pure layoff of senior staff to put in freshers in their place
Arent the people being layed off entitied to severance package so that they can sustain till they get
another job is got in this slowdown
I have been laid off from Capgemini
I have been working in Capgemini for three years,I have been asked by practice head to resign
Ranga, it will help if you know a bit about the law. Under Section 39 of Karnataka Shops and Commercial Establishments Act (which TCS will come under), it is illegal for an employer to dismiss anyone who has put in 6 months or more of service except for a “reasonable” cause and unless 1 months notice or salary is paid – except for cases of misconduct. Now (and this is the interesting part) if “no reasonable cause” or misconduct can be proven, then employer MUST pay one month’s pay for every year of service. Going by this, if you have been terminated without any reasonable cause or misconduct, then you should get at least 6 months pay! Another clause in this Act is about Right To Appeal. You can approach the Labor dept who is the appellate authority and if this fails, you can approach the District Judge. There are tons of cases where companies are made to pay higher severance packages where they wrongfully pay insufficient severance when they terminate an employee (but of course they have a right to terminate).
I have a cousin who’s been laid off to working abroad and now she doesn’t have any alternative so she went for a loan which out government offers for those who have been displaced by virtue of the global economic crisis.
HCL Tech is planning to cut salaries 25% (Rumour) from the month of April shook all the employees. The HR people are also asking the freshers/one-two year experienced candidates in HCL Tech to move in to the BPO or to quit the job(Many employees received mail confiirmation). They are asking ppl to get into some projects meanwhile most of the projects are on hold/withdrawn An other rumour is that all ppl in Bench will get a chance to attend an interview, they will be fired immediately if they have not get through the interview.
Its really hectic that the bench strength is increasing due to the withdrawn of many projects.Projects are also cutting the employee count to increase the profit.Lot of the people who were working as HR/Admin(Management) etc at the lower level are moved from their roles and are asked to get in to some projects ASAP or face the consequences (Really funny).
Really a Good Employee first Company.
Most of the employees are thinking that Vineet Nayar(CEO) may not be unaware of these bad initiatives from management for cost cutting.
And this is really opposite to his statement ‘No Employee will be left behind’.
Capgemini is a great company to work with and I feel it is a great privliege to be in this company. However things have been totally messed up by Bangalore engagements. There is no control and proper resource allocation mechanism in Capgemini, Bangalore. Many good professionals have left the company due to not being given suitable roles, assignments etc. Another area company need to improve is Bench management. Lots of new recruits happening despite skill sets are readily available who were sitting in Bench for many months. This clearly means there is no proper communication among the group involved in project requirements, bench and recruting groups. There are some resources who have been over utlised during initial years (who have been excellent in delivering to the client requirements) were pushed into Bench without his/her consent. Later bench do not seem to bother to place him/her in other accounts in the group as they feel they are there to harass the employee in such a way that they would leave the company soon.
A personal experience with TCS – Delhi :
I was made to sign a paper under pressure . I have strong faith in the Tata group’s people practices and don’t believe that the way the HR-head north head meted out the decision that day was a representative example of the same and has in fact scarred the Tata brand .
The event had stressed me to a level that i could not analyse the consequences and signed under pressure.
These are tough times and I understand the company’s tough position. So was willing to work with you given the following:
-> If short term cash flow for the company is an issue and we are in the process of cost cutting. i was willing to go on leave without pay.
I had clearly invited the HR for a discussion on this but how they exploited the stressed out individual’s situation is absolutely inhumane & pathetic. She should have dealt every case individually rather than drilling the decision to meet a target.
Such is the TCS- HR Delhi way that a TCSer had to commit suicide on being forced to put signatures on resignation papers.
My only intention is to bring this and similar events that have happened in TCS- Delhi to the awareness of the Top TCS management and prevent the scarring of the TATA brand that is so close to my heart.I wish some arrangement is made for such genuine cases.
I respect the TATAs and the Tata Code of Conduct and events like these are exceptions which should be dealt properly.

Point in discussion are :
-Cases should be dealt individually and not solved with a common formula.
-To bring this event to awareness to TCS top management, incase they are not aware of it.
i invite opinions , experiences of TCSers & and suggestions for such people.
Pls feel free to write to me direclty also.

The crux of the solution to this problem lies in improving the efficiency of the MATC or the RMG ( Resource management Group ) and laying off the non-billable HR before laying off the associates who work in projects.MATC in TCS Delhi is so less approachable ,unaccountable and inefficient in managing the bench strength.
Associates who have had to come in touch with the MATC in Delhi will tell that there is lack of understanding amongst the MATC people in the first place.

I been in Mastek for about 2 yrs, I’ve been put on virtual bench. Inspite of working so hard company doen’t recognise. RMG is pathetic, so is ADMIN and HR. F&L has still not re-imbursed my mother’s eye operation money.
Currently on Vitual Bench geting a package of 8000/- in hand.
Mastek has lots of politics with its sincere employees and people buttering their managers are always preferred.

I am working in IT sector but doesn’t feel comfortable, I have an opinion that people who are being laid off or fear to be laid off should have an online community specially for IT professionals in India which will not only help them in finding another job but also let them enrich their experience regarding corporate malpractice and know their legal rights so that they are not butchered like goats.
Please let me know your opinion as i am eagerly waiting for it and also let me know if any such online community already exists.
Please feel free to contact me at dipan_strives@rediffmail.com

I want to bring 1 fact in front of you all….All IT companies want man power at cheaper rates no matter if he/she is a B.Sc even. We were lured of something which seemed to be a very good package to all of us just after completing our degree. that time most of us never thought of the consequences that is coming as lay offs in our way. This decission of ours to accept such luring offer of IT companies were made at that time when our core subject knowledge was at peek level. That time many of us could have clicked in PSUs within a preparation of 1 yr. Now since we have taken the wrong decission, when we get laid off at the age of lets say 28/29 , we are left with no option but IT again. I hv seen all my looser friends who cud nt make it to the campus selection are now at ISRO,NTPC,DRDO etc….at much greater comfort zone than us. we make the IT companies and they dont make us. just like they hv shown us the back door, wud it be wrong nt to kick their fuckin ass and abandon them until they stop playing with our future.
LAYOFFS! SYCOPHANCY! HYPOCRISY! MEDIOCRITY! BULLYING! ARROGANCE! INFOSYS!
Hi,
I joined my Unit at Infosys on July 7th, 2008.
For ten months, I was on purely internal projects(*) . My probation was extended by three months under a PIP, which I agreed to, since I wanted to respect the company’s wishes. On speaking to the VP of the Unit I was told that within a few weeks I would know if my performance had been bad enough, so I could start looking elsewhere. So I thought I was on safe ground and in direct touch with the ’seniors’ who would surely give me a signal if something went wrong – if nothing else, at least sufficient warning, since the VP is also my classmate from college.
(*) (no chance to do client work, where the feedback is not tempered by the boss’s personal prejudices – strange since I have nine years experience in this field – ah, the insecurity and nervousness of the medicore majority!)
Now, the main story:
I was given a set of (difficult) tasks to complete by March 24th, which I did finish – by March 17th! (well, speed and agility are pluses, but clearly not at this hotch potch of a company) even if there were numerous (artificially introduced) additions and constraints to the tasks. My work under PIP was complete – or so I thought.
On 30th April, I received a mail with a pdf attachment that had my confirmation letter (which I received with mixed feelings, since I was already tired of working in a Unit which did not understand my work and where gossip and mediocrity ruled). On 6th of May, I got ANOTHER mail that said that my confirmation was null and void (!!!). What shit, one of my coleagues said, when he heard about this.
I asked for an HR enquiry. A few days after this, my HR contact went on indefinite leave (!).
On 15th May I was asked to resign, otherwise, I would be terminated and be given a ‘bad reference’.
On 18th May, after two days of deliberation over the weekened, I resigned. I was immediately escorted by a security guard to the gate after having all my possessions (including my water bottle) checked for ‘confidential information.’
In the course of my eleven months there, I
– wrote the job descriptions for the Unit – of course, since they do not know much about this field – they had to get me to write the job descriptions
– single handedly defined the process that projects in this industry follows, tailored to the company’s processes (tough job, since the company has well-defined software processes)
– created a training plan for all fresh graduates into this field – naturally, since the bosses at my Unit do not know what knowledge is in the context of e-learning – indeed, they do not know what knowledge is and can spell ‘knowledge’ only with MS Word (R) spell checker installed
– co-wrote the rate card for pre-sales team with another talented person (who fled after six months in the Unit for a much better job – no, for a REAL job)
– helped hire many people into the team thru tests and interviews – so they needed me to know which people they need for their work in the future!
One more thing:
In the course of my eleven (UNEVENTFULl in terms of work, since no one was doing any work in the Unit and EVENTFUL in terms of the kind of medicore, myopic, senile, and arrogant bosses I had to deal with) months at the Unit, I donated Rs. 4000/- to the Hinjewadi Foundation, which does work for disadvantaged and challenged children. In good faith, and also to please my bosses (who doesn’t?).
At the time of my resignation, my DM, who does a lot of work for Hinjewaid foundation well knew that I have a kid with a special condition and that I have no job in hand (I still don’t by the way). Hypocrisy, thy name is Hinjewadi Foundation at Infosys!
Is this the dream that NRN and Nandan built? How these mediocre people have let down these great visionaries, who I respect from the bottom of my heart.
transpose matrix – check MathML for alpha
These people do not understand an intelligent person’s work, can only be jealous and bullies in return and can be ‘manly, and brave’ only in groups. As individuals, they are mental rats – and look worse than rats. I pray that none of my friends and well wishers joins a company full of arrogant, medicore hypocrites who think they are working in Information Technology, when the only IT they know is checking bank balance on ICICI.com and sending meeting requests on MS Outlook (does eating IT park pizza qualify as IT? Or buying hajmola in IT park?)
I am glad to be out of this S hole of a company.
